| As a rule, German culture is not
too fond of the nonsensical. Morgenstern is the exception
of the rule. However, Morgenstern's poetry, which was inspired
by English nonsense rhymes, is immensely popular. 'The
Gallows Songs' ('Galgenlieder') and 'Palmström' feature
some of his masterpieces.
Later, he turned away from the nonsensical and started to
concern himself with philosophical topics.
His philosophical and mythical works were largely influenced
by Nietzsche, father of nihilism, and Rudolph Steiner, father
of anthroposophy.
