Geography
Located in the north-east of Germany
and with a population of around 3.5million, one third of the city's
area is covered by woodland, parks and waterways.
The state of Brandenburg, Berlin's outback, is
famous for its abundance of water. More than 3.000 lakes are an
open invitation for rowing, swimming, sunbathing and other water
related activities.
Population
Berlin has been a metropolis for centuries.
Therefore, its population is as diverse as the city itself. Considering
its scale, Berlin’s citizens are surprisingly open. Expect
to be talked to, when enjoying one of the many pubs or coffee shops
or while travelling by public transports.
Weather & Climate
Berlin has a temperate climate. Basically, it’s hot and humid
during summer and cold in winter. Berlin’s weather is determined
by Atlantic and Continental influences. When the wind comes from
Russia the temperature can drop well below zero. Generally, the
winter is rather mild by European standards.
During June and July daytime temperatures may climb to 24 °C.
In August and September, the weather is especially temperate at
an average of 18 °C.
Best time to visit
With a busy cultural
calender and numerous sights
Berlin is a year-round destination. Some institutions like some
theater houses take a summer break but summer specific events like
open air cinemas and festivals fully compensate Berlin’s inhabitants
and visitors for this.
